Worship Notes

Power’s out!  Just this week, many got ready for work and school in darkness.  It’s amazing how accustomed we have become to having power and light on demand.  If it’s dark, throw a switch, turn a knob, or even ask Alexa to turn on a light and it’s done.

Between the Old and New Testament, before the ministry of John the Baptist, there were roughly 400 years of silence from God – 400 years of darkness.  The Jewish people had faced persecution, captivity, and exile from their land.  One of the very last things that God pronounced through the prophet Malachi, before the 400 years of silence, was that light was coming:

“But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings”                              -Malachi 4:2

From the song, “Let Hope Arise,”

Though we live in the dark, we long for the Light
Let hope arise!

We need redemption, we need a Savior for all,
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
God of Salvation, send the Messiah to us,
We hold onto the promise of the coming of the King
Let hope arise!

As they waited long ago, we hold onto the promise that He is coming again!  Let hope arise!
