Worship Notes

I find it interesting that, we as Americans, have such a love of the English Monarchy.  It’s been more than 200 years since patriots fought and died to give us freedom from that very institution, and yet, in 2024, we know that more than 73 million households have watched at least one episode of The Crown. Is it the pageantry?  The lifestyle?  The history?  Regardless of the reason, it’s clear that something draws us into that story.

It is particularly beautiful that Almighty God has chosen to describe Himself, and our relationship to Him, in terms of royalty.  He is the King of all kings.  1 Timothy 1 says He is the King eternal and the only wise God.  Romans 8 says we are children of God and joint heirs with Jesus.  The references are too numerous to name. God’s decision to use the language of royalty to help us understand who He is has influenced all of Christian worship to this day.  There is pageantry in our worship.  There is history in our worship.

Let angels prostrate fall
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown Him Lord of all

Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race
Ye ransomed from the fall

Let every kindred, every tribe
On this terrestrial ball
To Him all majesty ascribe

O that with yonder sacred throng
We at His feet may fall

Angels bow at His feet. We kneel as He is crowned as Lord over all. God has extended His royal race to include those of us who have been ransomed from the fall and now we enjoy the benefits of being members of the royal family.  Every man and woman on earth should, and someday will, acknowledge His Kingship.  And finally, worship is joining the eternal, sacred throng of singers in humble worship of the King!

Join the pageantry of worshiping the King of Kings!
