Worship Notes
The freedom we have through Jesus Christ is overwhelming. The song “Death Was Arrested” describes it as washing over us. It frees us and liberates us from the consequences of sin. It frees us from the bondage of the law and allows us to live the life for which we were created – a life in relationship with God, able to enter into God’s presence with boldness. Free people worship God faithfully, they love God and their neighbors extravagantly, and they serve and share the gospel boldly – may we be that kind of people. Let us do it in response to a holy God who loved us so much that He sacrificed His one and only Son for us.
Released from my chains I’m a prisoner no more
My shame was a ransom He faithfully bore
He canceled my debt and He called me His friend
When death was arrested and my life began
We’re no longer prisoners; no longer bound by sin and shame. He canceled our sin debt which was to be the punishment of death. Now we’re friends of God – even more, the scriptures add that we have been adopted into His family and called sons and daughters of The Most High God. And it was all because Jesus willingly and faithfully bore the punishment we deserved.
So, when we sing the words together, “We are free, free, forever we’re free…” may we shout those words of truth and victory. What joy it is to be free in Christ!
Chris
