Worship Notes

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.               - John 13:34-35 ESV

Those words Jesus said, “just as I have loved you,” hit me hard every time that I read them.  How has He loved us?  With a sacrificial love.  With a love that loved even the ones who betrayed Him.  With a love that loved those who crucified Him. With a love that willingly died for us.  Words seem almost inadequate to express the depth of God’s love.

In the song, “By Our Love,” we are reminded of the importance of this love for one another and for our neighbors.  As we weep over our broken and fallen world, we are reminded to pray for our children and grandchildren who will face the consequences of a world ever more in need of Jesus Christ, the Light of the world.

Children, You are hope for justice,
Stand firm in the Truth now, set your hearts above
You will be reaching, long after we're gone,
And they will know you by your love!

The time is now, Come Church arise
Love with His hands, See with His eyes...
Bind it around you, Let it never leave you,
And they will know us by our love

What an encouragement.  Stand firm in the truth and set your minds clearly on the things of God.  Church, it’s time to rise up to serve and to see our lost and dying world with the eyes of our Lord.  We want them to know us as Christians because of our love for one another and for them.
