Worship Notes

Who could imagine so great a mercy?  In my wildest imagination, I could not fathom a willingness by God to sacrifice so much for us…for me.  In every other major religion, salvation is by work. But in the mind of God, He imagined something far greater, far better, than any man-made religion:

The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The King of kings calls me His own
Beautiful savior, I'm yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope

The God of eternity, in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, stepped down from glory and willingly died the death we deserved and accepted our punishment for sin.  Now, I am His and He is mine – adopted as a son into the household of the King of kings!

Beautifully, the song continues with the only response possible:

Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

He has broken the chains of sin and death.  His is our only hope of salvation.  What great mercy!  What boundless grace!
