Worship Notes

Psalm 66:4 - “All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.”

Luke 19:40 - Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these [his disciples] were silent, the very stones would cry out.”

Were creation suddenly articulate, With a thousand tongues to lift one cry
Then from North to South and East to West, We'd hear Christ be magnified

Were the whole Earth echoing His eminence, His name would burst from sea and sky
From rivers to the mountain tops, We'd hear Christ be magnified

Oh! Christ be magnified, Let His praise arise, Christ be magnified in me
Oh! Christ be magnified, From the altar of my life, Christ be magnified in me

All of creation declares the glory of God.  We see it in his handiwork.  In the imagery of the song, we imagine that all of creation suddenly can speak and sing the praise of God.  And when we look to the sky, we see God’s name written in the clouds.  From as far as we can see, whether north, south, east, or west, whether down low in the river valleys or up high in the summits of the mountains, we can see that creation proclaims, Christ be magnified!

But even as we acknowledge that “the heavens declare the glory of God,” we are reminded that humanity was God’s special creation, made specifically for His praise.  While creation is capable of bringing praise to God, we were set apart for that very cause.  It is our purpose.

Let us not allow the rocks to take our place.  This Sunday, sing strong and loud.  Let our praises rise and declare, Christ be magnified in me!
