The purpose of the deacon ministry is to assist the pastoral staff by ministering to the congregation in practical ways that build unity, provide for needs, and enhance spiritual growth and fellowship.
Primary Areas of Service
- Event Support – Assist the church in setting up for events and ministry projects. Such activities include setting up tables, chairs, and tents, transporting equipment, moving furniture, hanging banners, picking up supplies, and similar tasks.
- Grief Care – Provide spiritual care and emotional comfort for church families who are grieving over the loss of a loved one. Such care would include contacting families, prayer, visiting the funeral home, assisting with any needs, and follow up.
- Hospital Care – Provide spiritual care and support for church members experiencing a health crisis where a hospital stay is required. Such support would include contacting families, prayer, visiting the hospital, and assisting with needs.
- Nursing Home/Homebound Care– Provide spiritual care and support for church members who are unable to attend services and events due to physical limitations. Such support would include making quarterly visits, writing cards, making calls, and assisting with needs.
- New Members Care – Help new members get assimilated during the first year of membership. Such help would include following up with new members, keeping track of attendance, answering questions, encouraging them to join an Adult Bible Fellowship group, and helping them find a place of service.
- Ordinance Support: Serve the church by assisting with the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Each ordinance team will be led by a coordinator who will enlist the help of other deacons depending on the need.
